Healing That Lasts

Leaking after childbirth, painful intimacy, pelvic heaviness — symptoms like these are often dismissed as “just part of being a woman."

At Foundations Physical Therapy, we don’t accept that.

Our mission is to bridge the gap between standard, symptom-based medical care and true healing. By taking a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach to root-cause treatment, we empower patients with the education, resources, and expert guidance needed to go beyond symptom management and back to living full, vibrant lives.

Pelvic Pain

Chronic pelvic pain is a common condition affecting 1 in 7 women, but common doesn’t mean normal and symptoms can drastically impact quality of life.

Our Approach: With specialized techniques like myofascial release, exercise, biofeedback, and addressing your nervous system, we target the muscles and connective tissues surrounding the pelvis to relieve tension, rebuild strength, and restore comfort during daily activities.

Painful Intimacy

Pain during intimacy can have many causes and is often exacerbated by hypertonic (tight) pelvic floor muscles, but it’s not something you just have to live with.

Our Approach: Utilizing a combination of gentle internal and external manual therapy, as well as exercises, to help down-regulate the nervous system and release muscle tension, we treat conditions like endometriosis and vaginismus without “pushing through” discomfort.

Postpartum Recovery & Fourth Trimester

The standard 6-week OBGYN checkup is necessary and may “clear” you for “all activities” but it doesn’t address deeper healing factors. Beyond your acute healing from childbirth and pregnancy is rehabilitation, and that’s where we come in. Painful sex after having a baby, weakness, leaking, constipation, or not feeling ready to return to your previous level of activity? We get it. Your body deserves to rehabilitate from one of the hardest things it will ever do.

Our Approach: Our practitioners specialize in guiding women from being “medically cleared” to physically rehabilitated, we treat conditions like diastasis recti (ab separation), C-section scars, and perineal tearing. We will get you back to what you love to do, including running and jumping without leaks or pain.

Pelvic Organ Prolapse

Pelvic organ prolapse is another common condition that occurs when pelvic organs (bladder, uterus, rectum) descend due to weakened pelvic floor muscles.

Our Approach: We focus on strengthening and improving coordination of the pelvic floor and core system, improving muscle function, and alleviating symptoms like heaviness, pressure, or bulging through gentle manual therapy and progressive exercises.

Urinary Incontinence

Urinary incontinence can cause symptoms that make daily living difficult, like frequent urges to urinate, difficulty controlling your bladder, or leakage during physical activity.

Our Approach: Our tailored treatment plans include a range of modalities designed to reduce pressure on pelvic structures so you can run, jump, lift, exercise, and push your body further with confidence and comfort.

Answers to Your Pelvic Health Questions

Yes. Pain during sex can have many different causes, and we are trained to uncover those causes. Our practitioners use gentle techniques like internal manual therapy and myofascial release to address tension and restore comfort. We also collaborate with other providers who specialize in sexual dysfunction and painful sex to address any hormonal, tissue or nerve related contributors to pain.

Absolutely not — pelvic tissue can be retrained at any age. We treat the symptoms of menopause and gladly accept Medicare to provide accessible, comprehensive care for seniors.

The fourth trimester refers to the 12 weeks following birth in which physical recovery is a primary focus for the postpartum woman. While a 6-week checkup with your OBGYN is necessary, it’s insufficient in assessing whether or not your muscles are recovered and ready for daily life. Rehabilitation can be beneficial for all, but especially those with diastasis recti, painful sex, urinary incontinence, or painful scars.

Yes. We gladly accept Medicare patients looking for expert, specialized care. We are a non-participating Medicare provider which means we collect payment at time of service (on a Medicare fee schedule) and Medicare and your secondary insurance will reimburse you directly. This is different from some other providers who will accept only a copay. Because we are not a high volume clinic, participating in Medicare in this way is the only way we can serve this population.

We do not accept insurance outside of Medicare plans. Our comprehensive approach to treatment provides 1:1 pelvic healthcare that standard insurance-based models cannot support. We do accept out-of-network benefits and can bill towards your out-of-network insurance on your behalf. We can also verify your out-of-network benefits for you to determine an estimated amount that they may cover. Contact our office for more information.

What to Expect

Your healing journey begins with a thorough assessment of your symptoms, medical history, and lifestyle factors.
From there, our expert pelvic floor physical therapists will create a personalized treatment plan using myofascial release, targeted exercises, biofeedback, and nervous system downregulating techniques for your long-term healing.
If additional support or specialized care is required, our practitioners will collaborate across disciplines to assure the most comprehensive approach is available based on your unique symptoms and needs with our trusted community of providers who understand pelvic floor and related dysfunctions.

Our team

Ronit Sukenick began her career at New York Presbyterian Hospital at Columbia in 2006 after completing a joint BS/Doctorate of Physical Therapy program at Boston University. She rotated through various inpatient and outpatient units and clinics and was set on specializing in physical therapy for neurological conditions. That all changed during her pregnancy with her first son, which resulted in injury, debilitating pain, and a host of pelvic floor symptoms. Despite working in the best hospital system in New York City and being surrounded by world-class health care providers, Ronit was left without any explanations for her condition or for how to pursue treatment.

After her son was born she spent a long time fruitlessly searching for answers before discovering pelvic floor therapy, then a little-known speciality in this country, and finally making progress toward rehabilitation. She started to take courses in the specialty of pelvic health and in 2012, after the birth of her second child (in which she sustained the same injury that required additional rehabilitation), she created the Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation Program in New York Presbyterian Hospital at Columbia.

Four years later Ronit opened a private practice in Westchester to treat patients with various pelvic health diagnoses, and it quickly became a thriving full-time business. She is now embarking on a new adventure by expanding her practice to a multi-practitioner pelvic floor specialty physical therapy clinic in order to meet the needs of her community.

Ronit is passionate about the benefits of evidence-based physical therapy (and exercise in general) and is a big believer in advocating for her patients in the healthcare system, especially those in pain. She lives in Hastings on Hudson, NY with her husband, two boys, and two dogs. She enjoys reading, drawing, yoga, biking, tennis, and pilates. She hates running…and yet does it, mostly to prove that she still can. And, she is thrilled to report, she is no longer in pain.

After earning her doctoral degree in Physical Therapy from Stony Brook University in 2014, Fiana Tulchinskaya’s journey in healthcare began with pediatric patients, for whom she provided rehabilitative care in schools, outpatient clinics, and at-home visits. And while working with young patients was incredibly rewarding, there was a persistent idea in the back of her mind—thanks to a particularly inspiring professor who had introduced her to the speciality years before—that she should be working in pelvic health. The birth of her own child sealed the deal, as Fiana’s eyes were opened to the limited postpartum support available for women. The idea to pursue a specialty in pelvic floor physical therapy officially took root.

With specialized training from Herman and Wallace, practice in Myofascial Release and a developing Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialization, Fiana’s commitment to continuous learning ensures she employs the latest evidence-based approaches in her practice. Combining expertise with genuine empathy, she works to create personalized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s unique needs and goals.

Fiana lives in Orange County, New York, with her partner and two children, whom are homeschooled. Her childhood in Queens didn’t prepare her for life in the “country,” and she marvels daily at the amount of stars she can see in the night sky. Fiana is an aspiring gardener and likes to crochet, hike, and swim, and nurtures a sourdough bread baking habit that began in 2018.

Esther Widlanski holds a clinical doctorate in Physical Therapy from Columbia University and undergraduate degrees in Kinesiology and English from Indiana University. She is deeply committed to supporting patients of all ages and genders who are experiencing pelvic floor dysfunction. She believes that her role is to foster healing through a collaborative, compassionate, and non-judgemental therapeutic relationship, and strives to provide individualized care to each person she works with.

As a dancer trained in classical ballet and contemporary dance, Esther brings a keen awareness of movement and mobility to her physical therapy practice. Before earning her doctorate, Esther worked for many years as a dance teacher and choreographer, and she holds a certification as a prenatal yoga instructor. Her professional life has primarily focused on guiding others in using their bodies safely and to their best individual ability. It was through experiences navigating her own injuries, and those of her students, that she became motivated to be of deeper service through physical therapy.

Esther lives on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, and loves reading, going to the theater, knitting, and spinning her own yarn. When she’s not in the office, you may find her perusing the wool on offer at local fiber festivals or crouched down to greet every single cute dog she passes in her neighborhood.

Dassi earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Touro University, where she graduated with honors for academic excellence. Her interest in pelvic health sparked even before PT school and only grew stronger as she pursued specialized coursework and hands-on clinical experience.

Her pelvic health training includes advanced certification through the Herman & Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute and a clinical rotation at Foundations Physical Therapy, where she discovered how deeply she enjoys this work.

Dassi is proud to be part of the Foundations team and feels privileged to provide skilled, compassionate, high-quality care to patients seeking pelvic floor rehabilitation.

She rotated through various inpatient and outpatient units and clinics and was set on specializing in physical therapy for neurological conditions. That all changed when, during her first pregnancy, she developed debilitating pelvic pain and other pelvic floor symptoms and many, many years later was diagnosed with endometriosis which made all her symptoms finally make sense.

She spent years searching for solutions before discovering pelvic floor physical therapy—a little-known specialty at the time—and finally making progress toward recovery.
